Point Pleasant Schools' Athletics' Philosophy

The Point Pleasant Borough Athletic Department is committed to providing opportunities for our student athletes, not only in the sports they participate in, but socially and scholastically through educational-based athletics. Win or lose, Point Pleasant Borough student athletes are encouraged to provide a winning effort, exhibit sportsmanship, and demonstrate respect for all. Interscholastic athletics promote an awareness of the positive impact of hard work, the value of developing measurable skills, the importance of attention to detail, and the ability to persevere through adversity. Interscholastic athletic participation produces lessons that are carried on throughout a lifetime. These lessons include sportsmanship, teamwork, competition, and how to win and lose gracefully. It is through the mentoring of our student athletes by our coaching staff, that provides the guidance in that “teachable moment.”

As role models, the coaches should administer structure, direction, discipline and sense of values while exercising open communication and cooperation with all who are involved with their teams. Our athletes should know how to deal with defeat in a sportsmanlike manner, but should also know the feeling of winning and how it develops self-esteem and motivation for life’s challenging tasks.
